Got a couple of quesions this morning...

Today I want to run three simple questions by you, I'd like three answers - simple answers.

  1. Where do you see your photography a year from now?
  2. What would you mostly like to improve?
  3. If you had to choose one style of photography and not do anything other than that, for the remains of your professional life, what style would it be?

Three simple questions... Give me your answers - in depth, short, whatever... post them in your comments.

hmmm,

1. Being realistic my photography will be a hobby still and not a profession (which in a lots of ways suits me fine anyway - it will remain an escape rather than a source of income)

That said I'd like to be at a standard where I can get the odd paid gig to buy kit with (the odd portrait job and the like thru word of mouth etc for friends of friends).

I'd like to still be enjoying it, and still learning at the rate I am now.

It would be nice to see one of my images published in a magazine or paper or something just once! (for the scrapbook of life).

2. hmmm, well as I'm still in my infancy with it - lighting, mostly off camera with stobes.

and on a less technical front my confidence.....both in the results I produce and my ability to approach others (add the next 99 strangers to my 100 strangers set...lol)

3. probably portraits, I love portraits and enjoy shooting them. Trying to capture the essence of someone or a moment and nailing it......very exciting!

although If I could say travel photography and that led to be being given a round the world air ticket (and a bag of cash) then.....no contest...lol

man I waffle!

1 - probably continuuing where I am today, just doing it as a hobby. And maybe a bit better at it than I am at the moment :)

2 - I started 100 strangers in June. I have done two. In june. I find the whole approaching other people thing super difficult, so I wanna improve that!

3 - industrial photography, all aspects of it - people, architectural etc...

Well I am not really a professional photographer...not even close but here are my answers anyways....
1. A year from now?? Well of course on the cover of National Geographic...what the hell ever...uhmmm probably not going to be much different than it is now..unfortunatley. Maybe doing family portraits for close friends and family member. It will still just be a hobby but hopefully I will be a college professor with photography as a hobby instead of a 8th grade school teacher with photography as a hobby. (Was that answer too long?)
2. I would love to get away from so much of the cleche photography and develop a style of my own. But right now I guess all the cleche photographs are helping my technique.
3. I guess it would have to be street photography. I love those random pictures that tell a story!!

1. A year from now? Like RIGHT now? Can I tell you after my 10.30 meeting on Tuesday? Seriously, I can't answer that till I have this meeting on Tuesday. This interview is a defining moment in my photography career. It's not the end of the world if I don't get in. There are Pro's and Con's for getting in or not, but the decision of these course directors will shape what happens in my photography in the next 12 months. The shot answer is, to be better than I am now and be earning enough to make a good living.

2. I currently feel like I shoot with a lot of raw instinct, or whatever you want to call it. I want to understand WHY a shot is a good shot. To be able to rationalise it PRIOR to shooting rather than scrolling through my images after I have shot them and deciding which ones I like.

3. Tough question. Can I refer you to the answer to question 1 and plead the fifth amendment (whatever the hell that is) till after Tuesday? Actually maybe after this fashion shoot on Friday? Who knows man. I'd love to do portraiture, but who doesn't.

1. Amateur getting pro quality shots would be a goal.
2. I'm not good so I'd like to improve everything. I don't see myself as 'a creative'
3. Candid. I love candid shots, I don't enjoy the few portraits I've done - possibly I'm just not able to get a natural look from someone but I love those "single moment" shots that aren't setup but tell a story. From people to wildlife, after all - it's the same thing.
